Molly Dewey, TV8 Host: Tell me a little bit about the Vail Dance Festival, I am so excited to hear about it as a former dancer.

Shelley Woodworth, Vail Valley Foundation: Yeah well if you haven't seen it before it's something to behold for sure. This is the 30th anniversary of the Vail Dance Festival we're very very lucky to have it here.  For 30 years it was one of the first things to ever actually happen out at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail…

Host: So that's where it takes place?

Shelley Woodworth: We've got nine performances out at the ampitheatre, we’ve got two performances here in Avon that are free and then we've got two performances up at the Vilar Performing Arts Center up in Beaver Creek.  And then we also have a bunch of community things that that happen throughout the village as well.

PREMIERE BALLET COMPANIES VISITING VAIL

Host: What kinds of performances can people expect to see?

Shelley Woodworth: Everything that you would ever want to imagine.  We've got classical ballet, tap dance, street dancing… pretty much everything. We're under the artistic direction of Damian Woetzel who was the principal dancer with New York City Ballet for about 20 years. He's actually also the president of The Julliard School and so we're very lucky to have him here in Vail.  He's been with us for about 10 years and so what he's done to really elevate the performances that the Dance Festival is outstanding and so we've become one of the revered festivals around the country.

Host: Wow, such a cool thing to have here in the Vail Valley.  I feel like I shouldn't be surprised anymore at the level of culture of things to do here.

Shelley Woodworth: Yeah it really is it's amazing, we're very fortunate.  This year we've got three companies that its their first time here in Vail.  We’ve got American Ballet Theatre.  We've always had different performers from Amercian Ballet Theatre here on our gala evenings and in different collaborations throughout the festival, but this year we've got the company and they're doing a select repertory here just for Vail, so we'll be performing on two nights.  We've got Ballet Hispanico with it’s classical ballet but it's got a little bit of a latin flair, very exciting and they’ll be performing Carmen which is actually a special on PBS right now. And then we've got Alonzo King LINES Ballet from San Francisco and this is their first time at the festival as well, so we're excited to welcome three new companies this year.  In addition to all of our other international evenings of dance and and dancing in the park which we do here at Nottingham Park in Avon.

Host: So you mentioned there were a couple free events?

Shelley Woodworth:  Yes that's what those are, so the Town of Avon has welcomed us to their beautiful stage here at Nottingham Park and we're doing two free evenings. So we've got the children from the Celebrate the Beat which is a national youth dance movement so they'll be performing opening up, and then one night we've got Alonzo King LINES Ballet and then another night we've got Ballet Hispanico performing for free here in Avon.

TICKETS AVAILABLE NOW

Host: So where can people find information about this?

Shelley Woodworth:  So vaildance.org is our website and the box office opens at 11:00am.  There still are tickets to most everything, but there are some things where the pavilion seating has already sold out.  I want to mention the dates of the festival are July 28th through August 11th, 2018...

Host: So coming up, and you have some time it sounds like…

Shelley Woodworth:  A little bit of time but a lot of our performances are close to selling out, not yet on the lawn but our reserve seating is, so I would not hesitate.
